The images and accompanying notes in this collection are taken from the lecture slides of Dr. Tice Miller, covering the history of theatrical practice from ancient cultures through the 20th century. These files contain depictions of theatrical spaces, scenery, costumes, lighting, practitioners, and theoreticians, augmented by historical artifacts and cultural materials.

Plan of the theater which was built by Richelieu and remodeled by Torelli ; it served as the home of Moliere's company from 1660 until 1673 and was used by the Opera from 1673 until 1763 when it was destroyed by fire. Note the seatless pit, marked O at the right.
