Animal Science Interviews
Interview with Dr. Robin Thompson
In this interview, Dr. Robin Thompson has a conversation with Dr. Bill Hill about his career as a geneticist and statistician. Professor Thompson, brought up on small dairy farm in the North of England, found itmuch easier to do mathematics than milk cows. He describes his career path from his studies in mathematics and statistics at the University of Newcastle through his retirement at Rothamsted Research. Professor Thompson discusses his pioneering development of Residual Maximum Likelihood (REML) procedures, the linking together of prediction of breeding values (sire evaluation) and variance component estimation, and involvement with the development of the statistical software package ASreml.
